Safety tips for drivers of any age or skill level

It's extremely  important to follow the manufacturer's recall guidelines.  Recalls can range from safety to mechanical in nature. Safety recalls protect the occupants and mechanical recalls prevent you from having to replace a faulty piece of equipment on your own dime. Mechanical recalls will usually a time limit that the manufacturer will pick up that expense. So don't wait. Get it done asap.

Maintaining  your vehicle properly with oil changes every 3,000 to 5,000 miles to protect the engine from being damaged internally is important. Checking your fluids once a month and toping them off makes sense. If you don't.. Today's engine replacement can range between $4,000.00 - $8,000.00. Automatic transmissions cost typically ranges between $3,000.00 - $5,000.00.

If the "TPSM" light is on  in bright yellow, one or more of your tires have a low tire pressure.  Don't hesitate to address the TPSM light's warning. Quickly refill each tire to the correct tire pressure shown on the tire pressure rectangular sticker on the driver's door jam when you open the door. Low tires cause lack of control and can fail immediately. Don't screw around with it. A small problem could cost you a lot financially if you get in an accident or killed.

Tire rotations every (3) oil changes prevents uneven wear and scalloping of the tires prematurely. You can be ticketed by the Police for having a pour quality of tires on your vehicle. So check each of the four tires for uneven wear. Seek a tire professional's help when your tires reach the wear bar.

Have a professional check the strength of the battery once a year and replace it after 5 years if you want to have peace of mind. It's also a great idea to check the battery's terminals every 6 months to ensure both terminals are clean. Upon seeing growth of a powdery like substance have both of the terminals cleaned by a professional and check the battery at the same time.

Check both of your headlights once a month in their low beam mode as well as high beam is important. Once you lose either side's high or low beams it is wise to replace both headlights right away. They typically fail with in weeks thereafter.  It's just as important to check both of your brake lights, blinkers and all side and/or roof marker lights to prevent other drivers from not seeing you at night. It also prevents Police from ticketing you.

You are required to turn on your headlights by law, in either case. The reason is simple. So that other drivers can see your vehicle in their rear view mirrors. The "Why" it isn't always for you. Often, a rain mist can hide a car following you. The same problems occurs if you forget. Light On!

The construction companies working to improve or update the highway or roadway are letting you know the road's being worked on.  The direction of traffic may be redirected rerouted around the construction causing a back up. Slow down and watch for lane shifts from what's normal. Don't follow the vehicle in front of you to close, incase they need to stop for a police officer or a member of the construction crew.

Tailgating the vehicle in front of you can cause unnecessary damage to both vehicles if an accident occurs.  Even following a car to closely can road rash your car, SUV or truck's paint and finish with stone chips. The same stone chips can raise hell with your two headlights surface as well. Use caution when driving. It will save you lots of money and lower your cost of insurance too.
